“That was brutal.” “That crushed me.” That was ridiculously difficult.” “Never again!”
I’m often surprised by the responses I hear from athletes post-WOD. Expecting the day’s workout to be easy is almost as silly as expecting Quantum Physics to be simple.
The Navy SEALs have a saying: “The only easy day was yesterday.” I think this sums up the concept of CrossFit training beautifully.
It’s time we resign ourselves to the fact that our training will never get easy. On the contrary, it only gets harder.
There’s no easy path to increased work capacity. Increasing your work capacity means developing the ability to do more work longer and faster. MORE work, not less. I’m sorry, that’s just how it is.
Let’s start relishing in the difficulty. Cherish the moments when things get really tough. Take solace in the fact that we push ourselves to do things that most people would never in their wildest dreams consider attempting.
There’s no doubt our training is hard. You will struggle. But you will come out on the other side stronger, faster, and more confident in your abilities. And that’s pretty awesome.
