On the eve of the 2014 CrossFit Games, there is a lot of electricity in the air surrounding who will be crowned the “Fittest Person on Earth.” Over the past seven years, the Games have evolved from a casual get-together to a world-wide phenomenon. And the driving force behind this movement is the CrossFit community of athletes.
An athlete is a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, and strength. By definition, CrossFitters are all athletes, which is what makes our program so rewarding. By competing against ourselves, and our peers, and exposing ourselves to a myriad of exercises, we become athletes.
But what sport do we play? What exactly are we training for? We’re preparing ourselves to be ready for anything.
We chose CrossFit because we sought a level of fitness beyond our wildest expectations. It started as an interest in being able to reach our goals as they relate to sport, but has since broken those boundaries. Now we seek to improve every aspect of our lives through fitness. To be able to perform our jobs better, to be surrounded by people who celebrate our accomplishments, to have a box to call home, to try things that most people would consider silly (but we consider cool).
So what are some of the traits that make CrossFit athletes unique: humility, integrity, honesty, and tenacity. We are committed and dedicated. We are competitive, yet respectful and supportive. CrossFitters embody all the characteristics of an athlete, and much more.
You are an athlete and your arena is the world around you. Relish in your achievements. Be your best, because every day is game day!
